In Season: Wild Mushrooms

Went home to the province over the long weekend. Did a lot of things. Good rest, good chat with childhood friends, bonding with family, date with boyfriend (ahuh!..char!) and ate good good food! Mama prepared all of my favorite food - native longganisa, chicken dinuguan, native tinola, patopat, ginataan and Abra's wild mushrooms which are in season.

These mushrooms, locally known as "oong", grow between the months of June to early August. Town folks believe that they only grow after rains and thunderstorms. They grow beneath the trees or bananas or practically anywhere where organic materials abound. They are not grown commercially. The people only wait for them to just grow. These delicacy's price can range from Php300.00 to Php150.00. I don't know what they call this mushroom in english, or even it's scientific name, all I know is that it is  definitely edible, not one of those poisonous kinds. Mama knows a lot of mushroom recipes, one is adobo which is my favorite. :)

Just got back to the metro for work, but I'm missing home already.. :(
